This is the worst part of being away from home. Sick with a nasty cold, in a hotel room in a foreign country. At least the hotel room is clean and warm but still thinking of my nice comfortable bed at home in California today. We are by a large grocery store so we can buy food and picnic in this room when we are too sick to do much more.
This is a short post to let you know that we are alive but dealing with some of the challenges that comes with being on the road in a senior gap year. I will write more about it when I feel better. Which I hope is tomorrow. lol
I have not been able to post much over the last two weeks because we did not have a good internet connection on the ship ( the Norwegian Epic). I will be writing about the cruise and posting some photos over the next few days to catch you up with our adventures.
The Norwegian Epic is a huge ship ( the largest we have sailed on) there were 4400 passengers on board. We were traveling with our family and had two side by side cabins in the aft end of the ship. They were the smallest cabins I have ever been in. And we shared our cabin with my sweet sister Sandi. We were very cramped and had to take showers in shifts. But my other sister and her husband were in the next room and the balconies were connected and spacious. So we often put five chairs together on the aft balcony to have a drink and watch the sunset which was great fun. ###Travel tips ; if you travel with family try to get cabins next to each other especially if you are in balcony rooms.
It was an 11 day cruise going to ports in Spain and Italy. After we left Barcelona we arrived in Cartagena, Spain. Dave and I walked up to the castle at the top of the hill and had terrific views of the port. Of course, the view was important in order to save the city from all the historical attacks by the sea that this town had to suffer over the centuries. Luckily, the only attacks now are from tourists. There were two cruise ships in port that day and they disgorged a lot of passengers. We walked up the hill to the castle on the top.
There was also a male peacock strutting his stuff on the castle stair way. He put on an amazing show for the tourists his mate was asleep at the bottom of the hill. Well, very tired tonight so will resume the travel log tomorrow. Many new places to see.
I cannot believe it but we will be flying tomorrow morning to Barcelona , Spain. Our family left today and will be there one day before us. It was so sad to say goodbye to my dear son and Jake and Mac the dog. I know they will all do well while we are away but still , I am crying. There is sorrow in a goodbye and joy in a hello and they compliment each other. We have an 18 hour journey and I will be very happy when that is over.
Come along with us, the best is yet to be and we will be sharing our adventures with you.
Here is the plan as it now stands to return to Europe. We leave Mexico on Friday and next Monday we fly to Barcelona to meet up with our family. We will all then leave on an eleven day Mediterranean cruise around Spain and Italy. The cruise returns us to Barcelona. Alas, our family will return to California while we stay on in Barcelona. We have rented an apartment for 21 days in the city. We hope to travel around Spain on day trips. Then we have another Mediterranean cruise that drops us off in Venice . We will stay there for five days and then fly to Bristol, United Kingdom.
In England, we have the privilege to pet and house sit for five lovely families which we are very excited about. We get to take care of some wonderful dogs and cats and become friends with some interesting people.
It feels kind of overwhelming , but since we did it last year in Italy we know we can handle it. I feel that we need to make the most of our time and health at this stage of our lives.
I will be posting more often with photographs of the trip.
Happy dance, we now have 4 house/pet sitting assignments in England between the months of May to August. This is so wonderful because we will get to take care of some very sweet dogs and kitty cats. We will also get to know and become friends with some lovely people. We feel so honored to be chosen by these wonderful people to take care of their homes and their furry friends. Thank you.
Still will be missing Mac, but this will really help.
